ISLA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will showcase the work carried out by the Association during 2020. Amongst other things, this will include key priorities, achievements, and deliverables.

As Europe continues to come to terms with a post-Brexit world, this session will provide perspectives on today’s political landscape. Amongst other things, it will consider the implications of Angela Merkel’s imminent departure, as well as the upcoming French presidential elections in 2022. Financial regulation will be front and centre as EU policymakers strive to give the EU a sense of direction, with the bloc’s internal unity being tested from rule of law squabbles and possible further political tensions over migration.

The worst of the COVID-19 economic crisis may be behind us, but the global economy is not totally out of the woods just yet. Supply chain pressures are worsening, inflation rates are spiking, and the wall of government coronavirus support is coming to an end. Join us for macro-economic perspectives and the general outlook for the key global fiscal and monetary indicators.

During the opening panel of the Forum, we invite senior figures from across the securities finance industry to share their personal perspectives and experiences as 2021 draws to a close, and we embark upon 2022.

The range of member working groups organised by the Association is the most extensive and representative ever seen. Following on from our opening sessions, Chairs of various ISLA Steering Groups discuss key influences and areas of focus, including regulatory, legal, collateral, and digital.

The format of the final session of the opening day will be an exchange of ideas and experiences between an institutional investor group with very different profiles yet common interests. Each will consider the aforementioned influences on their priorities, and how they are influencing the future direction of the industry.

As technology emerges as one of the most dominant influencers of our industry, Andy Dyson hears how EquiLend are poised to meet the challenges ahead in the increasing digital landscape.

Securities finance has always embraced innovation, driven from both larger incumbents to smaller emerging players. Continuing on the theme of technology influencers, this session will consider this landscape in terms of growth, collaboration and scalability. Amongst other things, the group will discuss the merits of partnerships or acquisitions and the most efficient ways of bringing new products to market.

Many commentators suggest that the sustainable agenda will be by far the greatest influence on how we think about securities lending in the post-pandemic era. This session will consider recent regulatory developments across Europe, and in particular what this means for us and adjacent markets, including the wider investment community as well as alternative investment managers.

Drawing upon recent work led by the Bank of England (BoE), amongst others, this final session will look at the practical implications of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As evidenced in the recent joint discussion paper from the PRA, the FCA, and the BoE, there is clear momentum for change, which is building around the world. Social movements and increasing investor focus have led to global conversations, notably around gender and race. These have engaged the attention of regulators globally, so at this pivotal point, what next?
